High levels of activin A detected in preeclamptic placenta induce trophoblast cell apoptosis by promoting nodal signaling
2013-10-23

Research group led by Prof. Yan-ling wang discovered that Plasma and placental productions of Activin A were significantly higher in preeclamptic patients when compared with normal pregnant subjects in a Chinese Han population. They found that abnormally high level of Activin A cause trophoblast cell apoptosis through activation of Nodal signaling. These results were recently published in The Journal Of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
